Bizarre Corruption Case in New York Captures National Headlines
State Senator Malcolm Smith and New York City Councilman Daniel Halloran along with three additional city and state officials have been implicated in a recent federal investigation. Smith, a Democrat, allegedley attempted to bribe his way onto the Republican ticket in the New York City mayoral race. NPR reports that evidence compiled by the FBI indicates a ubiquitous cynicism among the defendents, namely Halloran. Halloran was quoted in taped FBI conversations as saying "That’s politics, that’s politics, it’s all about how much...You can't do anything without the $%#@*$& money!" In other words, what's new?
