Life Saving Generics Vs. Pharmaceutical Innovation
This article is in regards to the debate as to whether generic brands ultimately take money that would otherwise be spent on name brands, whos companies could then apply that money towards new pharmaceutical innovations. The main question of the article is, what will happen if the name brand pharmaceutical companies no longer maintain the funds to develop new medicines to treatillnesses. One story within the article spoke of a ruling in India's Supreme Court which chose to throw out an attempt by Novartis, a large pharmaceutical drug developer, to prevent the local production and distribution of a far less expensive generic version of their drug to treat leukemia.
