Many Universities Playing Fast & Loose With Admissions Data: NBC News
NBC News recently publish a report claiming that universities throughout the country have been caught manipulating data. Much of this data has to do with graduates' job placement rates and average debt of graduates. This news comes as no surprise - competition amongst universities and colleges has intensified as the bidding war for top students and their parents' money continues. While fudging SAT scores and freshman retention rates to climb college rankings such as US News and World Report is certainly unethical, the integrity of such a list is equally questionable in the first place. The reliance on college rankings such as US News is out of hand and fools prospective students and counselors into comparing colleges on the basis of obviously dubious statistics.
