Earthquake in Japan effects car sales in US
The recent earthquake off the coast of had a major impact on domestic car production and export. Much of the coast line was damaged making it impossible to transport the amount Toyota’s Honda’s and Nissan’s that the U.S. demands. Toyota and Honda feel that they might be able to supply the demand in approximately 6 months however Nissan hasn't given a time frame as to how long it will take them to get their manufacturing plants and transportation arrangements back on track. In reaction to this, other imports from the other side of the globe have picked up the slack. VW, Mercedes, Volvo, and Audi have all experienced sales increases. This is supply and demand at it's finest. When one or in this case many producers and meet the supply another company will step up to the challenge.
