May message

Dear SUNYIT Community,

It's hard to believe, but the semester is almost over—Commencement is only ten days away! I know that all of you join me in wishing our candidates for graduation the very best. Please plan to attend Commencement on Saturday, May 11, starting at 10 a.m., in the Wildcat Field House; after their years of hard work, our graduates deserve the very best sendoff.

For faculty and staff, I have a special request as the semester concludes and we look forward to summer. A unique opportunity is coming to SUNYIT the week after Commencement, one that will reaffirm our commitment to students. Following a Disney Institute customer service training program on May 16 for the general public, the folks from Disney will give SUNYIT staff a private half-day session on Friday, May 17. This session will give all of us a fresh look at our #1 priority: service to our students. Please discuss this program with your supervisor and make plans to attend; I expect that most offices will curtail operations so that we can all take advantage of this unique experience. The Disney Institute session for SUNYIT staff will be held May 17, 10-11:30 a.m., in the Student Center multipurpose room.

May will be a busy month on campus. In addition to Commencement, our international conference, "Safety and Security in the Global Age," will be here May 16-17, and SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher is scheduled to address attendees of SUNY’s CIT 2013 conference the following week. These and other events and activities will set the stage for an active summer at SUNYIT.

Again, best wishes to our graduates—and good luck to all students as the semester winds down!

Sincerely,

Wolf Yeigh
President
