University Police

Sexual Misconduct Policy

SUNYIT is committed to maintaining an environment in which students, faculty, staff and guests can work together free of all forms of harassment, exploitation and intimidation. Refer to the college policy on this subject for additional information.

SUNYIT will take action as needed to discourage, prevent, correct and, if necessary, discipline behavior that violates this standard of conduct.

Disciplinary Action
Students accused of violations of the above policy receive hearings and are subject to discipline under the provisions of the College Code of Conduct:

  1. accuser and accused must have the same rights to have others present.

  2. accuser and accused will be informed of the outcome of the proceedings. They may be subject to criminal prosecution under the New York State Penal Law as well.

Faculty and staff accused of violations of the above policy receive hearings and are subject to discipline under the provisions of the applicable collectively negotiated agreements (see Personnel Policies and Procedures). They may be subject to criminal prosecution under the New York State Penal Law as well.

Allegations of sexual assault or rape should be reported to the Office of University Police (ext. 111). Allegations of sexual harassment should be reported to the Personnel Office (ext. 7191). Students may wish to consult with the Vice President for Student Affairs (ext. 7505).

Confidentiality
Efforts will be made to ensure the confidentiality of all reports, except as necessary and required to investigate the alleged offenses.

Procedure for Reporting: On Campus
A college employee, student, or other member of the college community receiving information or allegation of any of the above offenses should report it immediately to the appropriate office.

Procedure for Reporting: Off Campus
Allegations of sexual assault or rape occurring off campus should be reported at once to the local or State Police, or Sheriff's Office. You may contact these agencies at the following numbers:

Counseling

SUNYIT provides counseling and support services at our Counseling Center (ext. 7160). Rape Crisis Services in Utica is on call 24 hours a day at 733-0665.
