SUNYIT Posting Policy

Statement on Posting: SUNYIT maintains several spaces on campus where its members can share information about upcoming events and activities which may be of interest to others. The focus of the poster is to inform the community about an event taking place, its time and location. We have developed these standards so that all members will have an equal opportunity to utilize these spaces without offending other members of the community.

  1. There are two types of posting boards on the SUNY Institute of Technology campus:
    1. Events Boards: For recognized campus organizations and departments for notices to the campus community.
    2. Vendor Boards: For all other organizations or businesses, and for the sale of items.
  2. Posting on these boards will be limited to posters sized 11" X 17" or smaller. Anything larger must be first approved in writing by the Office of Student Activities. Contact the Student Activities Office for more information about creating and posting banners and other large posters.

  3. All posting will focus on the event and will responsibly promote the activity in good taste.

  4. In the interest of maintaining an academic environment, alcohol will not be mentioned on posters. This includes any reference to drink specials.

  5. There are several special use bulletin boards around campus. They are to be used only by those designated on that board. These may include, but are not limited to, academic departments. campus offices, and employee unions.

  6. All classroom bulletin boards are to be used for academic notices only.

  7. There will be no placing of advertising materials on car windshields, doors, or wall surfaces other than bulletin boards. Exceptions may be granted, in writing, by the Student Activities Office for special functions.

  8. Any notices on tables will be in approved table tent form. This means that it will be free standing and can be easily moved and replaced during cleaning.

  9. Posting materials can be distributed two weeks previous to an event, and are expected to be removed the day following the event. Any exceptions to this must be obtained in writing from the Office of Student Activities.

  10. Door to door solicitation in the residence halls is not permitted. This includes handing out flyers at each door. For additional information on posting in the residence hail complex, see the Residence Hall Policies.

  11. All posting materials must clearly indicate the sponsoring organization.
