Lottery
The lottery is for current freshmen, any other student who currently lives off-campus, and all other resident students who wish to change rooms. (Example: You have the option to squat your room but choose not to because you want to live somewhere else. You would need to enter the lottery.)
Students who enter the lottery may pull their friends into the suite with them. (Example: You have lottery number 6 and your friends have higher lottery numbers. You can pull them into your suite on your lottery number. Their numbers will no longer be needed.)
Three or more residents are necessary to open a currently empty suite.
Students who would like to enter the room lottery must come to the Residential Life and Housing Office to complete a lottery card. Completing the lottery card will indicate your interest in receiving a lottery number. Flyers will be posted indicating when the deadline is for completing lottery cards. After all the lottery cards are collected, lottery numbers will be randomly assigned and posted. Your SUNYIT student ID number will be used to identify you on the lottery list. At the time noted on your lottery receipt, report to the Residential Life and Housing Office. Make sure that you bring your completed Room Accommodation form, your lottery receipt, and student ID. If you are not able to attend at your designated time, please send a proxy (with a photo copy of your ID and a note authorizing the proxy to choose a room on your behalf).
Invited
This student is invited by a friend to join him/her in a suite. You may be invited by someone who is selecting a room as a squatter, displaced student or by someone who received a better lottery number than you.
