Residential Life

Prohibited Items

Students are PROHIBITED from possessing the following items in residence halls:

  • Air conditioners
  • Athletic free weights
  • Beer balls or kegs
  • Candles
  • Ceiling fans
  • Most cooking appliances (see below for permitted appliances)
  • Dartboards
  • Explosives
  • Extension cords
  • Extra furniture (unless specifically approved)
  • Firearms and other weapons
  • Halogen torchiere lamps
  • Hot plates
  • Immersion heaters
  • Incense
  • Lofts
  • Microwave ovens (other than provided)
  • Non-portable electrical appliances
  • Open fires
  • Pets, with the exception of aquarium fish (tanks must be less than 20 gallons)
  • Potpourri burners
  • Refrigerators (unless specifically approved)
  • Space heaters
  • Weight benches

The following are permitted but may not be operated or stored inside the residence hall apartments:

  • Gas or propane grills
  • Internal combustion engines
  • Tires
  • Bicycles (a storage room is available)

The following items are permitted:

  • Extension cords are prohibited; however, UL approved, electrical, polarized, grounded power strips with fuses (or circuit breakers) are acceptable. The maximum amperage of such devices may not exceed 15 amps.
  • Air popcorn popper
  • Thermostatically controlled percolator / coffeemaker
  • Hot pots with temperature control
  • Personal refrigerators with the permission of the Director of College Housing
  • Computer
  • Clock
  • Radio
  • Stereo
  • Sewing machine
  • Typewriter
  • Tape recorder
  • Television
  • Electric fans
  • Hair care appliances
