Nursing Program
The School of Nursing and Health Systems at SUNYIT offers a curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in nursing. The baccalaureate program is designed exclusively to serve licensed registered nurses from state-approved associate or diploma nursing programs that are prepared to focus on their professional and career development.
Students may attend the SUNYIT program on a full-time or part-time basis. In addition to the SUNYIT program, courses have been offered at outreach sites, for example, Albany, NY. Course offerings at the outreach locations have been scheduled within a select time frame and have been delivered by senior nursing faculty, with courses offered through a blend of distance learning technology, and traditional classroom teaching. Online Internet instruction is through the SUNY Learning Network (SLN) or through simulcast instruction at outreach locations. Complete details regarding scheduling of nursing courses at outreach locations are available upon request from the School of Nursing and Health Systems.
The nursing program, in support of the mission of SUNYIT, offers direct articulation and joint admissions agreements with associate degree and diploma nursing programs. These agreements provide potential students advanced advisement regarding transfer of credits.
The curriculum includes coursework in the theoretical bases of professional nursing practice, comprehensive health assessment, nursing research, contemporary nursing practice, nursing scholarship, nursing leadership, and community health nursing.
As with all programs at SUNYIT, the nursing program includes a strong base in the arts and sciences. This provides students with the tools and knowledge to relate their experiences to their work and to the broader context of their lives. It helps create a more diverse, complete education that continues to grow throughout life.
