General Studies

General Studies

The General Studies program at SUNYIT is designed for students with at least 56 credit hours of college course work. Many students who have completed Associates degrees in Liberal Studies or General Studies choose this major to continue their work in these fields. Other students who have students who have completed a significant concentration of courses in a business or technical field but now wish to switch to a liberal arts degree find this program attractive also.

The General Studies major revolves around a student's own plan of action. Students complete the core set of General Studies courses, and choose two areas of concentration, or design their own program in consultation with advisors. The two areas can be chosen from Arts & Sciences areas, or combined with a professional area (from business, the technologies, or nursing).

Placement

Graduates will be prepared to enter graduate studies in interdisciplinary majors or in traditional liberal arts disciplines, to enter teaching, business, government, or any field where a strong liberal arts background is desired.
