Core Course Requirements



Transfer students interested in pursuing the BSEE degree at SUNYIT are eligible for matriculation into the EE program at SUNYIT provided that:
  1. They have a 2.8 or better GPA in Engineering Science or an equivalent plan of study, or
  2. They have completed the first two years of the Applied Mathematics program at SUNYIT targeted for EE majors, or
  3. They have completed, as a non-Applied Mathematics major at SUNYIT, the prerequisite courses listed below and have achieved a GPA of 2.8 or better with grades of C- or higher

Lower Division EE Courses:

  • 12 credit hours of basic science, which includes 8 credit hours of calculus-based physics with laboratory
  • Calculus I, II, and III, and Differential Equations
  • One course in written communication
  • Three courses in humanities and social sciences (US History, Western Civilization, and Economics are suggested to satisfy General Education requirements)
  • One course in computer programming using a structured programming language (Java, C++)
  • One course in Electrical Circuits
  • One free elective
  • Two additional technical electives (engineering, computer science, mathematics or science)
  • Students who seek breadth in engineering studies are encouraged to use the free elective and two technical electives to enroll in Statics, Dynamics, and Materials Science appropriate to an engineering science program. This sequence will help students planning to take the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination
  • Students who wish to concentrate in electrical engineering should use the free elective and technical electives to enroll in:
    - Digital Logic Design
    - Microprocessors
    - Data Structures
