Degree Programs



Undergraduate (BS/COM)

The general requirements for the B.S. degree in Professional & Technical Communication ensure students have a basic knowledge of mathematics, science, and liberal arts. The program's core courses provide students with a solid foundation of communication skills as well as theoretical background. Students choose four elective courses offered in the areas of graphic design, professional writing and editing, and/or technical and computer documentation. Students learn and utilize a variety of computer applications throughout the communication courses.

Graduate (MS/IDT)

The Master of Science in Information Design and Technology is designed to meet the needs of professionals who design information using various media. This degree would be of interest to those who support the design, development, and administration of communication technology initiatives as well as those who use information technology. Students learn to use new technologies, communicate information to various audiences, evaluate technology, and use it in educational and training settings. Professional & Technical Communication Minor

Technical communication is a skill that is integral to all types of professional occupations. The Professional and Technical Communication minor is valuable to students pursuing studies in various disciplines, such as mathematics, engineering, computer science, business, or psychology who wish to enhance their communication skills and make themselves more marketable. The minor requires 17-20 credit hours as follows:

I. Required courses (8 credits)
     A. COM 306 or COM 350 or COM 400
     B. COM 320

II. Elective courses (9-12 credits)
     A. With guidance from a faculty advisor, students choose and three courses with a COM prefix.
