The 45 credit hour MS Family Nurse Practitioner program is designed to prepare expert advanced practice primary care clinicians capable of providing care to families in primary care settings. The program builds on the undergraduate foundation and develops advanced assessment, planning and evidence-based competence through theoretical understanding and practical application to primary care practice. The program also provides a strong foundation for doctoral study and research.

Clinical expertise is acquired through clinical placements in a variety of public, private, and community based primary care agencies. Students will complete 800 hours of clinical practice.

The program is available in a hybrid format with a significant amount of coursework available online. For the first semester of study, students travel to campus only once a week. As the program progresses, travel to campus decreases.

Students begin the program in the fall semester and can pursue either full-time or part-time study. Full-time students can complete the program in 4 semesters (taking 12 credits/semester) by following the recommended plan of study. Part-time study will take approximately 8 semesters to complete but can vary depending on your particular course load each semester. Student are required to complete the program within seven years of enrolling.

Please see our Sample Plans of Study for details on length of study, course format and on-campus expectations:  Full-Time |
