Admission Requirements & Procedures


The full-time MS FNP program is only available to students applying for FALL admission; students wishing to begin their studies in the spring must pursue the part-time option.

Admission Guidelines
To be considered for matriculation in the master's program, potential candidates must:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program,
  • Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the last 30 hours of undergraduate or graduate level coursework,
  • Demonstrate successful completion of a course in descriptive statistics,
  • Nurse Practitioner applicants only: Demonstrate successful completion of an undergraduate health assessment course within five years of registering for NUR 566.  For those whose undergraduate health assessment course was more than five years ago, NUR 514 (2 credits) is available,
  • Currently be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State,
  • Have completed a minimum of one year's work experience as a professional nurse

Required Application Materials
Submit the following materials to be considered for admission into the MS Nursing program:

Applicants to the CAS program must submit all of the above materials; official transcripts must reflect completion of a MS in nursing. 

Submit all application materials to: SUNYIT Graduate Center, 100 Seymour Road, Utica, NY 13502. 

The applcation deadline for fall admission is August 1; the spring deadline is December 1.  Notification of admission is made on a rolling basis beginning in mid-January for fall admission and mid-September for spring admission.
