Information Design & Technology

Information Design Technology The IDT program is available either on campus or wholly online or a combination of the two formats. The on-campus format offers all hybrid courses in which time is split in each class between online and on-campus sessions.

The Master of Science in Information Design and Technology [IDT] offers an interdisciplinary examination of the role of new and emerging media within contemporary culture and communication while allowing students to develop a specific area of research to suit their unique academic and professional goals.

Through theory, practice, and individual research students will examine the complex relationship among diverse types of information and the technologies that are used to work with and communicate that information. Offering historical perspective alongside technical instruction the IDT program places particular emphasis on the social impact and potential of new communication technologies.

While all graduates will be expected to develop a sophisticated understanding of the vital issues surrounding information design and its technologies, individual students will choose to focus on one or more of the following areas:

  • Instructional Media
  • Educational Technology
  • Web Development
  • Graphic Design
  • Professional Communication

Graduates are prepared for advancement in professional careers that include secondary school and community college teaching, technical support, technical communication, public relations, marketing, instructional design and technology, publications, corporate communication and training for profit and non-profit organizations, healthcare management and other industries.

K-12 teachers with provisional certification as technology and educational technology specialists have used the degree for permanent certification, although those working in this area should check with NYSED for current requirements.

The program encourages current professionals seeking educational advancement to come together, work collaboratively, and participate in the continuing growth of new information and communication practices.
