Position Announcement

The State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT), located in Utica, NY, invites nominations and applications for the position of President. This Presidency provides a unique opportunity for the right candidate to develop a shared vision; to grow and strengthen the academic programs; to expand the campus; and to be a force in the region, in the SUNY System, and in the state of New York.  SUNYIT seeks a dynamic leader who brings people together in the pursuit of common goals; demonstrates a passion for quality in every aspect of the Institute; and who models integrity, competence, and professionalism.

SUNYIT

SUNYIT, the State University’s only Institute of Technology, provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs in technology, professional studies and selected liberal arts disciplines. Established in 1966 as an upper division campus, changes to the campus mission were approved in 2000 adding freshmen and sophomores, plus the addition of an MBA and greater emphasis on graduate programs. Today SUNYIT has just over 2200 undergraduate students and 600 graduate students studying in the following schools: Arts and Sciences; Business; Information Systems and Engineering Technology; and Nursing and Health Systems.

The attractive and safe campus sits on 800 acres in a park-like setting in the center of New York State and is within driving distance of New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Montreal, Lake Placid, and Cooperstown. It has the following facilities: three academic buildings, including a $14 million library completed in 2003; a campus center with indoor athletic facilities; two residence hall complexes; a maintenance facilities service building; and approval to add a $20M campus field house and $13M student center. There is plenty of room for future growth and for the possible establishment of incubators or other economic development partnerships.

The President

The President exercises broad executive leadership over all aspects of the academic, student, financial, and administrative dimensions of the Institute, consistent with SUNY policies and procedures. The President reports to the Chancellor of SUNY and works closely with the SUNYIT College Council.
