Albany Outreach Program

In the Albany area, the School of Nursing’s "Outreach" program offers part-time study for students pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees in nursing. Outreach courses are available at Hudson Valley Community College, and at Albany Memorial Hospital. Select courses are available for on-line study.

Outreach students can choose among our degree programs:

  • B.S. in Nursing
  • M.S. in Nursing with a choice of three majors: adult nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, or nursing administration.

SUNYIT also offers advanced certificates in adult and family nurse practitioner and nursing administration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to complete the degree through Outreach?

The program is designed for students to complete the coursework in four years, taking two courses per semester.

Can I attend full-time through Outreach?

Due to the program's course sequencing, full-time study is impractical. There might be a semester or two where full-time study is an option due to course offerings, but the entire program cannot be completed in this manner in the capitol district.

Where do the courses take place?

The nursing component of the program is taught at Albany Memorial Hospital School of Nursing; the arts and science component is offered at Hudson Valley Community College. SUNYIT faculty travel to these sites to teach the coursework.

Do I have to come to the main campus in Utica for classes at all?

Students must come to the Utica campus to complete one course. The course is offered in a variety of time slots during the academic year, and occasionally during the summer session.

How do I enroll in the Outreach program?

Prospective students who hold an associate’s degree or diploma with a major in nursing from a state approved program are admissible into the program. To apply, students should complete the SUNY Institute of Technology Application for Admission and have official transcripts from all previous colleges attended sent to our main campus: P.O. Box 3050, Utica, NY, 13504.

How do I register for classes?

To register for the first semester of study, all accepted students must attend a brief orientation/registration program on our main campus in Utica. At orientation, new students have the opportunity to meet the dean and other faculty members, receive academic advisement, register for classes, activate their computer account, and receive a SUNYCard (required photo ID for clinical work). We offer several different orientation dates and times to accommodate the needs of our students. Course registration for subsequent semesters can be completed online using an assigned PIN number. A faculty advisor is available in the Albany area for consultation prior to registering.

Are graduate programs offered through Outreach?

Select graduate courses are available through the Outreach program. We will increase the number of graduate courses offered as the demand for them increases.

At our main campus in Utica, we offer a M.S. in nursing program with a choice of three majors: adult nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner and nursing administration. We also offer a post-baccalaureate or post-master's certificate in nursing administration and post-master’s certificates in adult nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner. Courses are offered evenings, Saturdays, and online, and can be completed on a part-time or full-time basis.
