Nursing & Health Professions
Welcome!
In the Albany area, our RN to BS outreach program offers part-time study for students pursuing a bachelor of science (BS) degree with a major in nursing. Outreach courses are available at Hudson Valley Community College. Select courses are available for on-line study.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take to complete the degree through Outreach?
The program is designed for students to complete the coursework in four years, taking two courses (6-8 credits) per semester.
Can I attend full-time through Outreach?
Due to the program's course sequencing, full-time study is impractical. There might be a semester or two where full-time study is an option due to course offerings, but the entire program cannot be completed in this manner.
Where do the courses take place?
All arts and science and nursing courses are offered at Hudson Valley Community College. SUNYIT nursing faculty travel to the Hudson Valley Community College campus to teach the coursework while the arts and science courses are taught by SUNYIT Adjunct Faculty.
Do I have to come to the main campus in Utica for classes at all?
Students must come to the Utica campus to complete one course, NUR 490. This course is offered in a variety of time slots during the academic year, and occasionally during the summer session.
How do I enroll in the Outreach program?
Prospective students who hold an associate’s degree or diploma with a major in nursing from an accredited approved program are admissible into the program. To apply, students should complete the SUNY Institute of Technology Application for Admission and have official transcripts from all previous colleges attended sent to our main campus: 100 Seymour Rd., Utica, NY, 13502.
How do I register for classes?
To register for the first semester of study, all accepted students must attend a brief orientation/registration program on our main campus in Utica. At orientation, new students have the opportunity to meet the chair and other faculty members, receive academic advisement, register for classes, activate their computer account, and receive a SUNYCard (required photo ID for clinical work). We offer several different orientation dates and times to accommodate the needs of our students. Course registration for subsequent semesters can be completed online using an assigned PIN number.
Are graduate programs offered through Outreach?
The MS in Nursing Education program is an entirely online program.
We offer a Master of Science degree with a major in Family Nurse Practitioner at our main campus in Utica. Many, but not all, FNP courses are offered online. We also offer post-baccalaureate or post-master's certificates in Nursing Education and Family Nurse Practitioner. Courses can be completed on a part-time or full-time basis.
