CAD competition is from 1:00 - 2:30PM. Timed interscholastic design competition using INVENTOR or AutoCAD software, judged by a panel of professional engineers and professors. With permission, competitors may bring their own laptops with other installed modelling software.

Event Information will be distributed to registered competitors. You must sign up for this competition in advance!

 

Location: Field House. Competitors will gather in SUNYIT Field House Lower Lobby at 12:45 in order to be escorted to Donovan Hall labs for the CAD competition.

This competition is limited to 18 students (3 per school) - send in your application as soon as possible!

CAD Competition Information 2013

 

The following information is for students who are registered for the SUNYIT Showcase CAD competition. Prior to competition students are to research the following items:

 

  1. End tables
  2. Table dimensions
  3. Materials
  4. Fasteners
  5. Ergonomics
  6. Design
  7. Use of discarded materials

 

Students will only need to bring knowledge of the above information and a calculator

 

Day of Competition Instructions:

 

Client: Custom Tables Inc.

 

Target Consumer: New home buyers age 25-35

 

Problem Statement: Custom Tables Inc. is looking to increase its market footprint by creating a cutting edge table plans for their 2014 productions. The management is outsourcing the design process to students at the 2013 SUNY IT MV Tech Regional Competition. Creativity, functionality, and detailed views are imperative for clearly articulating the design. The drawings will be forwarded to management for evaluation.

 

Design Statement: Design, Model, Assemble and Dimension a table that includes the appropriate fasteners and materials using 3D modeling software.

 

Constraints:

            - Tables must have jointed connections and fasteners

            - Tables can be made from any material

            - Majority of components must be made of discarded/second hand materials

 

 

Judging:

Your work will be judged 50% on your design (creativity, function) and 50% on your technical expertise (fully dimensioned) as detailed through your drawing and assembly files.
