I use the Google Web Accelerator. Why can’t I
access library resources?
What is EZproxy and how does it work?
We use EZproxy software to authenticate off-campus users in order to give them access to library resources. Once off-campus users are authenticated (checked against the SUNYIT database of Sitnet id’s and passwords), the EZproxy proxy server connects them to the resource.
How do I get started?
On the library’s website, click on Databases and choose a database to search. You will then be prompted to enter your Sitnet ID (SUNYIT network ID) and password. When the system verifies that you are a valid SUNYIT user, you will be able to access the restricted resources.
You will also need to adjust your proxy settings and enable cookies and JavaScript in your browser. Cookies are used by EZproxy and some databases to verify that you are an authorized user.
Which browsers are supported?
Netscape, 4.x or 7.x
Internet Explorer, 5.x and higher
Firefox or Mozilla, 1.x or higher
Safari, 1.x or higher
AOL is not supported

"Secure Connection Failed" error:
If you see a "Secure Connection Failed" error in Mozilla Firefox 3.x, click on “or you can add an exception” at the end of the message, then follow the instructions.
Why can I connect to most databases but not all of them?
Ezproxy works by detecting special wording in the URL. Sometimes this wording gets removed. Add this prefix to the URL: http://ezproxy.sunyit.edu/login?url=
Why can’t I connect from my workplace?
Your workplace may be using a firewall or a proxy server for security reasons. If you get the message, "This page cannot be displayed," then the connection problem is probably due to a firewall. You will need to contact your company’s computer staff for assistance.
How long will I stay authenticated?
You will have to log in again after 30 minutes of inactivity.
I use the Google Web Accelerator. Why can’t I access library resources?
There is a conflict between EZproxy and Google Web Accelerator software. You need to uninstall or disable Google Web Accelerator in order to gain access to the library’s restricted resources.
I’m an AOL user. Why can’t I access library resources?
EZproxy does not work with the AOL browser. Connect to the Internet with AOL and then use Mozilla Firefox to access the library’s restricted resources.
I’m a Comcast user. Why can’t I access library resources?
When Comcast installs its software, it may make some changes to your machine’s settings that will not allow access to the library resources. You may want to try using Mozilla Firefox.
If you want to continue to use Internet Explorer, please adjust your browser settings. See How do I adjust my settings and enable cookies and JavaScript?
I’ve read all of these FAQ’s and I still can’t get connected.
If you have tried all of the above options, our EZproxy remote authentication service may be experiencing problems, or your filtering software may be blocking the site. Please contact us.
