Updating News
Logging in
Log into the database interface at: https://ssl.sunyit.edu/apps/database/ and authenticate with your assigned username and password.
Using the list of databases on the left side of the page, select the 'news' database.
Beneath the database list, select the news table that you wish to update.
Adding a news item
To add a news item, click on 'Insert' in the navigation menu at the top of the page.
You will be presented with a series of fields and blanks:
- id : leave this field blank
- title : this is the title of the news release
- author : put your name (not your login or username) here
- text : put the main body of the news release here
- timestamp : leave this field blank (it's automatically generated)
- summary : this is the summary seen on the news release archive (and the homepage if no homepage is entered (see below)
- homepage : this is the text seen on the homepage; if this is blank, the summary text (above) is used
- weight : leave this set to 0
Click on 'Go' to submit the news release. The news database is live, so this will change the homepage immediately (i.e. you do not need to publish).
Updating existing news items
To modify an existing news item, click on 'Browse' in the navigation menu at the top of the page.
You will be presented with a list of news items in the database, oldest first. You may need to page forward to view items that are more current.
For the news item that you wish to edit, click on the pencil icon for the corresponding news item.
This will present you with a table similar to what you would see when adding a new news item, but with the existing values already filled in. Do not modify the 'id' field..
