Organizing Files
- Organize your files into folders (directories) so you can locate them quickly in the future. A common strategy for students is to create folders for each class they are enrolled in.
- Clean up your files periodically.
Reduce clutter in your file system, by deleting old and unwanted e-mail messages and files.
Create archive folders on the (SFS) for files that are needed but not in the immediate future. You may choose or organize these files by semester, year or projects.
SFS archived files should be moved to CD or DVD when you are short on space in the SFS directory.
- Label removable media (CDs, diskettes, Flash sticks) appropriately. Media should be labeled so the owner can identify its contents and others can identify the media’s owner. The University Police department has a lost and found collection. Every semester many disks and CDs are unclaimed because their owner and contents can not be identified.
