Saving Files in Offices
- Remember to save your work often to minimize data loss in the event of a machine, system or power failure.
- Keep in mind that office computer hard drives are not backed up and are subject to failure. Files stored on removable media can be lost or damaged. The safest place to store files is on a server that is backed up.
- It is the responsibility of the user to copy his or her files to the SFS home directory.
- Files that are important to departmental operations or college initiatives (e.g. Mission Review) should be saved in a SFS directory or Docushare collection. Name folders appropriately (e.g. Departmental Files, TAC ABET, Mission Review, etc) for ease in locating them.
- Faculty should copy important files to their SFS home directory since it is backed up and files can be restored.
- Files that are saved on the hard drive, need to be located in the My Documents folder. Help Desk technicians will backup files in this folder before servicing office computers. Files are not located in the My Documents, will be missed during the backup and could be lost.
