Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships


Graduate Assistantships and Underrepresented Minority Graduate Fellowships

Students interested in being considered for one of the SUNY Institute of Technology's Assistantships or Fellowships must complete the Application for Graduate Assistantship form, (also in the back section of the SUNYIT's Graduate College Catalog. Return all completed forms to the Admissions Office. Additional material may be required to complete the Assistantship application. A screening committee will contact candidates if such materials are necessary. Questions should be directed to the Admissions Office.

Graduate Assistantship Job Opportunities

Graduate Opportunity Program

Students who are graduates of EOP, HEOP, CD and SEEK programs should contact the Coordinator of Special Programs at SUNYIT for application materials.

Graduate Residential Scholarships

Students interested in being considered for a Graduate Residential Scholarship, should indicate their desire to live in on-campus housing on the Application for Graduate Admissions form. Questions should be directed to the Admissions Office.

Program Descriptions

Graduate Assistantships

Assistantships are awarded each academic year to selected students and provide a tuition waiver of up to $5,100 (up to $2,550 each semester). Graduate assistants must be formally admitted to a master's program and are generally enrolled for a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester. Assistants are assigned teaching, research, or other administrative duties for 10-20 hours per week. A 3.0+ undergraduate GPA is required to be considered for an assistantship. Graduate Assistantship Job Opportunities

Underrepresented Minority Graduate Fellowships

A limited number of Underrepresented Minority Graduate Fellowships are available (pending SUNY Funding) to full-time graduate students who qualify for admissions. The Fellowship Program assists outstanding minority students from groups historically under represented in SUNYIT's graduate programs (African-American, Hispanic/Latino American and Native American). The fellowships, which are competitive, provide recipients with tuition and stipend support. The number of awards is subject to the availability of funds.

Graduate Opportunity Program

The Graduate Opportunity Program is for former EOP, HEOP, CD, and SEEK program graduates and reflects SUNYIT's concerted efforts to expand educational opportunities to underserved constituencies. The graduate tuition scholarship will provide students with financial support to help cover the cost of tuition. The number of awards is subject to the availability of funds. Contact the Coordinator of Special Programs at SUNYIT for additional information.

Graduate Residential Scholarships

Graduate students attending full-time and planning to live in one of the residence halls are eligible to be considered for a Graduate Residential Scholarship. The scholarship is $3,500/year (one year non-renewable) and assists in defraying the cost of your dormitory expenses. The number of awards is subject to the availability of funds. Please apply early, as scholarships are limited.
