Admission Requirements
Application and all additional material should be submitted by November 1 for the Spring/January semester and by July 1 for the Fall/August semester.
Admission to the State University of New York Institute of Technology is competitive and based on academic qualifications, proof of financial support, recommendation letter(s), and English language proficiency as determined by the TOEFL, IELTS and STEP.
Minimum scores required:
TOEFL (for both graduate and undergraduate)
79 internet based test
214 computer based test
550 paper based test
IELTS
6.0 undergraduate
6.5 graduate
Note: Proof of language proficiency is not required if you are a U.S. university graduate.
Some graduate programs require the GRE or GMAT exam and have specific pre-requisites.
Academic Qualifications and Test Scores Required for Admission (May vary by program)
Undergraduate:
- Generally, a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA by U.S. standards from high school or secondary school is required for undergraduate first year admissions
- Undergraduate first year applicants must present SAT scores (or comparative ACT scores) of 900 or better when combining the critical reading and math sections.
- Generally, a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA by U.S. standards from university coursework is required for undergraduate transfer admissions
Graduate:
- Generally, a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA by U.S. standards from university coursework is required for graduate admissions; proof of a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent is required prior to enrolling
- Some graduate programs require the GRE or GMAT exam and have specific pre-requisites.

Please note: Transcripts and academic documents must be translated in English. Some applicants may be required to submit transcripts to a foreign credit evaluation service such as World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) for evaluation.
Financial Documentation
All international applications are required to submit proof of financial ability to support yourself or be supported by a sponsor. No applicant can be admitted without this proof. To read more about the Financial Documentation Requirement
