Yes, SUNYIT requires a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 for undergraduate students and a 6.5 for graduate students.

What documents do I need to apply for my student F-1 visa?

Can I fax my documents to you?
Yes, but you must also submit the originals by mail with the exception of financial documentation.

When will SUNYIT send me my I-20 form?
Upon your confirmation that you will enroll at SUNYIT,usually by submitting your Confirmation of Enrollment Form and paying your Tuition Deposit.
How much money will I need each year to study at SUNYIT?
Payment for the semester is due at the time of registration. For information about current costs, please visit our Cost of Attendance page.
Please be sure to have your funds available in U.S. dollars prior to arriving on campus.
Are international students eligible for Financial Aid?
No. Only American students, refugees, or students with permanent residence status are eligible for financial aid.
Are international students eligible for scholarships?
Yes. All full-time undergraduate applicants meeting the following criteria will be reviewed for a scholarship immediately following acceptance to SUNYIT:
First Year Students/Freshmen
-SAT scores of 1100 or better (critical reading and math combined)
-Overall grade point average of 85+ from high school or secondary school
Awards range from US $1,000 to $4,500 per year for a maximum of four years.
Transfer Students
-completion of at least 30 university credits after secondary school graduation
-a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better
Awards range from U.S. $750 to $2,000 per year for a maximum of two years. Transfer scholarships are awarded on a first-come basis- early application is strongly encouraged!
Are international students eligible for Graduate Assistantships?
Yes. Assistantships are competitive and are awarded each academic year to selected students. To apply, submit the completed Assistantship Application (pdf) to the Graduate Center with the application for graduate admission. Since Assistantships are limited, applicants MUST still show financial documentation for the academic year. Students receiving assistantships will be required to work in their academic department.
How long does it take to complete a program at SUNYIT?
Undergraduate Degree:
For an undergraduate degree, students who enter with no prior University coursework and carry a full course load of 16 or more credits per semester can usually finish in four years. For an undergraduate transfer student, time to completion will depend upon transfer credits applied towards the student's degree program.
Graduate Degree:
For a graduate degree, students must complete approximately 33 credit hours (usually 3 semesters or approximately 18 months.) If "Bridge" or "Foundation" coursework is required, the program may take longer to complete. After I finish my SUNYIT undergraduate degree, can I apply to the graduate program at your school?
Yes. Contact the SUNYIT Graduate Center during your last semester of undergraduate study for information.
What are the requirements for admissions consideration into a Master's program at SUNYIT?
Generally, you must have completed a four-year degree and have a minimum GPA of a 3.0 by United States standards. Other admission requirements vary by program. For requirements by program, visit www.sunyit.edu/admissions/graduate_center/admissions_requirements/grad_admission
What is the eligibility for obtaining a Social Security Number?
If you are an International Student holding F-1 Status, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will only issue a social security card to you for purpose of employment.
The SSA will not issue a Social Security Card in order to open a bank account, rent an apartment, apply for a driver's license, or to sign up for a cell phone service.
You can apply for a Social Security Card if you have permission to work On-Campus.
How do I get in contact with current International Students?
Join SUNYIT yahoo group isa_sunyit@yahoogroups.com to chat with current International Students. You can ask questions about On-Campus, Living, and activities that are sponsored by the ISA group.
Are on campus jobs available to international students?
Yes, on campus jobs are available to international students. However, on campus jobs are very competitive because jobs are limited. It is not advisable to rely on an on campus job to cover your studying and living costs in the the United States. You are eligible to work a total of 20 hours per week, so if you have more than one position (including an assistantship), the maximum number of hours you are allowed to work is 20 per week.
You are eligible to work off campus on Curricular Practical Training (CPT) after completing two semesters at SUNYIT.
