How we think shapes how we see the world and how we act within this world.  For this reason, critical thinking and awareness begins with understanding the structures of thought, the development of ideas, and the social, historical, and cultural influences that give shape to both of these.  This is the goal of Histories and System of  Thought, the Area of Inquiry in which we explore our patterns of thought and the range of ideas, past and present, that shape how we perceive the world, our relations with others, and ourselves.
