B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies at SUNYIT
We live in an increasingly dynamic, complex, and globalized world. Engaging the challenges and opportunities of our modern society requires the ability to understand its complexities, navigate its landscapes, adapt to its changes, and pursue its possibilities.
The Interdisciplinary Studies Program is designed to enable students to explore the world and to define their own place within it: to investigate the interconnections that structure the world, individualize their education, and integrate their knowledge, skills, and ambitions.
Students in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) combine their own interests with a course of study that challenges them to investigate and understand the intellectual, social, and cultural contexts that shape us and the world, with special focus on examining the interconnections among technology, culture, and society. We adopt this approach because we believe education should prepare graduates for the challenges of modern life, both now and in the future, by focusing not only on acquiring specialized knowledge, but by learning how to ask questions from different perspectives, addressing complex issues by integrating knowledge from an array of disciplines, and thinking about problems in innovative and creative ways.
