Health & Wellness Center
Requirements
There are two fees, a health fee and an insurance fee. All students pay the health fee, which entitles them to services at the Health and Wellness Center.
Full-time Students (12 or more credits)
- Health History & Physical Exam within the past 2 years.
- Immunization Records
- 2 measles vaccines
- 1 mumps vaccine
- 1 rubella vaccine
- meningitis vaccine or completed meningitis information response form (vaccine not required).
Part-time Students (6 or more credits)
- Immunization Records as above.
- Health History & Physical exam ONLY IF you plan on using the Health & Wellness Center.
Health and Wellness Center
The Health and Wellness Center, conveniently located in the Campus Center, provides evaluation and treatment of health-related problems for full and part-time students. The Health and Wellness Center is staffed by registered nurses, nurse practitioners, health educator, part-time physician (available Wednesday afternoons) and support personnel. There are regularly scheduled hours for physician visits. Routine GYN exams are available by appointment. The Health and Wellness Center is open daily Monday through Friday with the hours of service posted each semester.
The nurse practitioner and the physician treat medical problems and they assist students with referrals to area specialists. Students are encouraged to make appointments but can be seen on a walk-in basis as well.
The Health and Wellness Center provides individual health counseling and offers innovative, prevention-oriented programs and events on diet, exercise and other health-related topics throughout the year.
Health Requirements

In accordance with college regulations, a full-time student must submit a health history and physician's examination to the Health and Wellness Center prior to attendance. Part-time students who fulfill these requirements may also use the services of the Health and Wellness Center.
A student will not be permitted to register for a second term until these requirements have been met. In addition, the student may only receive emergency and first-aid care from the Health & Wellness Center until the requirements have been met.

SUNYIT has a mandatory health insurance program. Therefore, all full-time students must carry some type of health insurance. SUNYIT offers an economical health insurance plan for students who need basic insurance coverage or wish to purchase additional coverage. The current plan is a basic accident/sickness policy through United Healthcare for $140.00 per semester)
Full-time students are billed for health insurance each semester. The student must complete an electronic waiver form on SUNYIT's website (see directions) documenting alternate coverage EACH SEMESTER if he or she doesn't wish to participate in the college plan. Information concerning health insurance is mailed directly to the student.

The State University requires international students entering the country for study or research, or any United States student studying abroad in a SUNY-sponsored program, to carry a SUNY health insurance policy information regarding insurance is mailed to these students upon their admission to the college. Additional information is available in the Health and Wellness Center.
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella
New York State Law (Section 2165) requires that all students registering for six or more credits (graduate and undergraduate) show proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella. Non-compliance with this law will result in student withdrawal from class. Persons born prior to January 1, 1957, are exempt from this requirement. (Non-compliance with this law will result in student withdrawal from class.) Students must provide the following:
Measles
Two dates of immunization on or after the first birthday or date and results of positive measles titer.
Mumps
Date of immunization on or after the first birthday or date and results of positive mumps titer.
Rubella
Date of immunization on or after the first birthday or date and results of positive rubella titer.
Meningitis
New York State Public Health Law (Section 2167) requires that all college and university students enrolled both full- and part-time, including Internet students, must provide documentation of the meningitis vaccine or complete the mandatory Meningitis Information Response form. The completed form is to be dropped off at the Health and Wellness Center prior to class attendance. Non-compliance to this law will result in student withdrawal from class.
