Health and Wellness Center

The Health and Wellness Center, located in Oriskany Hall, Suite B, provides evaluation and treatment of health-related problems for full and part-time students. The Health and Wellness Center is staffed by registered nurses, nurse practitioners, health educator, part-time physician and support personnel. There are regularly scheduled hours for physician visits. Routine GYN exams are available by appointment only. The Health and Wellness Center is open daily Monday through Friday with the hours of service posted each semester.

The clinical staff treat medical problems and they assist students with referrals to area specialists. Students are encouraged to make appointments but can be seen on a walk-in basis as well.

The Health and Wellness Center provides individual health counseling and offers innovative, prevention-oriented programs and events on diet, exercise and other health-related topics throughout the year.

Health Requirements

  1. In accordance with college regulations, a full-time student must submit a health history and physician's examination, completed within the last 2 years, to the Health and Wellness Center by August 15th (fall semester) or January 15th (spring semester). Part-time students who use the clinical services of the Health and Wellness Center/Counseling Center must also provide a physical examination completed within the last 2 years.

Failure to provide a physical examination will prompt a hold placed on the students account, barring them access to their account.

  2. SUNYIT has a mandatory medical insurance program. Therefore, all full-time students and all nursing students, regardless of credit hours, must carry some type of medical insurance. Full-time students and all nursing students are automatically enrolled and billed for medical insurance each semester. The student must complete an electronic waiver form on SUNYIT's website (see directions) documenting alternate coverage EACH SEMESTER if he or she doesn't wish to participate in the college plan. Information concerning medical insurance is mailed directly to the student.

  3. The State University requires international students entering the country for study or research, or any United States student studying abroad in a SUNY-sponsored program, to carry a SUNY medical insurance policy. Information regarding insurance is provided to international students upon their admission to the college. Additional information is available in the Health and Wellness Center.
