Private gifts can change the lives of SUNY Institute of Technology students and make their college experience one they will always remember. There are two basic categories of private giving at SUNYIT - gifts made to the endowment and contributions to the Annual Fund.

Contributions to the endowment are put in restricted funds (such as scholarships) or our unrestricted endowment managed by the SUNYIT Foundation. A healthy, growing endowment is vital at SUNYIT and ours has grown steadily over the past three years; it’s now close to $2.5 million. A portion of the endowment’s investment earnings is spent each year for scholarships and other purposes.

The Annual Fund provides direct budget relief, is unrestricted, and is expended each year. Donations to the Annual Fund help provide scholarships and emergency student loans, fund faculty research and staff development, and pay for programs that enhance student life.

SUNYIT relies on both annual gifts and grants to our endowment to provide a level of excellence that would not be possible with state funding alone. This kind of support truly makes a difference in the lives of our students.
