Why Invest In SUNYIT?
While attending SUNY Institutive of Technology, alumni, parents and friends' donations enhanced your college experience by helping cover the everyday costs of attending college. As alumni continue to give back to SUNYIT, the school will continue to grow and become stronger; in turn increasing the value of the SUNYIT name and your education. As a faculty/ staff member your donation sends a clear message to our campus community, our students and to our alumni, that you believe in and support SUNYIT.
Where does my money go?
Gifts made to the SUNYIT Fund make an immediate difference on the campus. They assist funding a variety of programs such as scholarships, academic programs, student activities, cultural events, library resources, research initiatives, professional development and much more. The SUNYIT Fund makes a difference in the lives of today's students and tomorrow's leaders. Your gifts allow 85% of our students to receive some sort of financial aid.
Do you mean the state does not cover these educational costs?
The state support has continued to decrease over the years. For the 2010 fiscal year SUNYIT will receive 35 % of the budget from New York State. The difference is made up every year by tuition, charitable gifts from SUNYIT's alumni, friends, employees, and parents, as well as foundations and corporations.
What about SUNYIT’s endowment?
Part of the income from the endowment is used to defray costs. The endowment is managed very carefully, with a fixed payout rate for current operating costs. The amount of unrestricted income available is not enough to close the gap between tuition and the real cost of an SUNYIT education. This is why The SUNYIT Fund is so important for enrichment of the students' experiences.
Does my gift make a difference-even if it is a small one?
Every gift is important. The overall program strength comes from the combined gifts from all SUNYIT alumni. We urge those who can support the College to do so at a level that is appropriate for them.
