Admissions FAQs

What are the admissions requirements?

Generally, freshman applicants should carry at least a B/B+ average in a college-preparatory program, and have achieved an SAT score in the 1000-1100 range (or approximately a 22-24 composite ACT score). Admission is based on high school average, SAT or ACT scores, strength of coursework and other relevant information. All applications are reviewed on an individual basis. Applicants should indicate the specific major in which they intend to enroll, or will be considered as an undeclared major.

A supplemental application with essay may be required. Letters of recommendation and an admissions interview are not required, but are highly recommended. Along with the supplemental application, letters of recommendation and an interview may be factors in determining merit scholarship awards.

All EOP applicants are required to submit a supplemental application.

Are SAT/ACT scores required?

Yes! Either the SAT or ACT exam is required. Scores must be submitted directly to SUNYIT if they do not appear on your high school transcript. SAT/ACT scores will be reviewed along with your high school record and supplemental application; we consider the scores in the critical reading and math sections of the SAT, but not the writing score.

SAT - 1000-1100 range
ACT - 22-24 composite

Where and when do I send my application?

Planning on applying for the fall semester? You should submit your application by the recommended deadline date of February 1 of your senior year. If application is to be submitted for early action the recommended deadline date is December.

Application Services Center of the State University of New York (SUNYASC) processes all SUNYIT undergraduate applications.

Is there an application deadline?

Recommended application deadline is February 1. Early application recommended application date is December 1 and is strongly encouraged for scholarship consideration and residence hall preference. Also, a supplemental application may be required, and early application provides adequate time needed for completion. August 1 is the firm deadline for freshmen and transfers.

When will I know if I'm accepted?

Notification of regular admissions decisions begins on January 15 and continues until the class is full.

Can I apply Early Decision or Early Action?

SUNYIT participates in the SUNY Early Action program. To apply early action, an online application must be submitted on or before November 1. A paper application must be postmarked by November 1. Applications must be complete by November 15. If your application is complete by November 15, we will notify you of our decision by December 15

Can I apply for EOP admissions?

Yes, SUNYIT offers the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) to a limited number of incoming freshman. Applicants must meet academic as well as financial criteria to be eligible for admission into EOP.
