Students may work with their academic department or Career Services to set up an internship. Although internships are not required in all programs, they are strongly encouraged so that our students gain valuable experience in their major.
Internships may be either paid or unpaid. Often students will receive credit for the internship.
Does SUNYIT offer a tutorial service?
The Learning Center offers tutorial services free of charge to students including individualized tutoring sessions, one-on-one writing consultation sessions, and small group instruction in a number of subject areas. The Learning Center can also help students improve study and test-taking skills
Is physical education required?
Physical education is not required, although students may take up to four credits toward open electives within their degree program. Courses like Introduction to Fitness and Aerobic Training are offered each semester, and provide a way to have fun while staying in shape.
Are academic scholarships available?
SUNYIT is committed to acknowledging academic achievement through our merit scholarship program. Scholarship criteria include academic achievement as well as supplemental information such as an applicant's essay, letters of reference, and extracurricular activities. Scholarship candidates will be selected from the top ranks of admitted freshmen, and may be asked to interview for top scholarship awards.
Merit scholarship awards range from $750 to amounts commensurate of NYS resident tuition: these include a residential award applied toward campus housing costs. Merit scholarships are renewable annually provided recipients maintain the GPA requirement as outlined in the scholarship award letter, and full-time status at SUNYIT.
How many full-time faculty are there?
90 FT faculty;
83% have doctorate or terminal degree
What is the average class size?
Classes average 20 to 30 students. However, in your academic major, especially for courses you will take your junior and senior year, it is most likely that you'll be in classes of 10-15 students. One-on-one instruction from faculty is extremely important; graduate assistants do not teach courses at SUNYIT.
