Engineering Technologies

Job Title: Science Laboratory Assistant

Assist in setting up laboratory classes for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Take down and put away the completed labs. Wash dishes generated from the labs. Make chemical solutions under supervision for Biology and Chemistry classes. Put away glassware. Assist in inventory data collection. Water the plants and animals as needed.

Must possess time management skills and ability to read and take verbal instructions well. Must also be able to write legibly.

Experience in lab situations is a plus but not required.

Daytime hours per week is 10+ per week. Two hour minimum increments to allow completion of tasks.


Job Title: Technical Assistant

Duties and responsibilities include diagnostic checkout and repair of personal computers and peripherals; maintenance of electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, meters, power supplies, etc.); routine maintenance of departmental labs; giving tours of the Electrical Department to perspective students; data entry (service database); and assisting in office as needed (filing, inventory, special projects, etc.)

Special qualifications include:  knowledge of electronics, PC troubleshooting skills, and moving heavy objects is sometimes required.

Transportation to and from the facility is the responsibility of the student.

Provide quality hardware and software support with a high degree of customer service skills, technical expertise, and timely resolutions of end-user problems. Install operating systems and supported software. Provide accurate and creative solutions to user problems to ensure user productivity. Check and stock computer labs with supplies. Research, resolve, and respond to questions received via telephone calls, tracking system, and email in a timely manner, in accordance with current standards. Acquire and maintain current knowledge of relevant products and support policies in order to provide technically accurate solutions to users. Participate in team projects that enhance the quality or efficiency of help-desk service. Assist in special product-related issues as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a two-year technical degree or the equivalent in work experience and one to two years of prior related work experience. The candidate will have an aptitude for providing positive customer service and good communication, problem solving, and technical writing skills.


Instructional Resources

Job Title:  Classroom Technology/Audio-Visual Assistant

Delivery, set-up, testing, operation and pick-up of classroom technology/audio-visual equipment in various campus buildings.  Minor electro-mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of media/technology equipment.  Updating scheduling and delivery records.  Assisting users with the interconnection and operation of various types of classroom technology equipment including multimedia projection, notebook computers, sound reinforcement, videotape and DVD playback.  Occasional office coverage to include answering telephones, serving customers, taking equipment/service requests from faculty, staff, and students for classroom and off-campus use of equipment.  Occasional assisting in the production of instructional media including camera operation. Using portable video camera and tripod to record presentations in classrooms and other locations.  Setting up microphones, screens, projection and lighting equipment.

Skills required:  Able to work with little supervision.  Good oral and written communication skills.  Familiarity with computer hardware, peripheral devices, and computer software.  Basic electrical and mechanical skills.  Knowledge of video, audio, microphones, projection, and sound reinforcement equipment.  Basic radio/TV production skills using video and still cameras.


Learning Center

University Police
