Senior Solutions logo

The 2012 SENIOR SOLUTIONS Season begins August 28, with the release of the Research Challenge and Robot Game Missions.

Since we have grown every year since we started this FLL adventure, we intend to run two qualifier events prior to the Championship Event.

(32 teams in the 2011 Food Factor Tournament; 30 teams in the 2010 BODY FORWARD Championship Tournament; 22 teams in the 2009 FLL SMART MOVE Qualifier tournament)

Dates:

Saturday, November 17, 2012 Qualifier at Rome Catholic School in Rome, NY.

Sunday, November 18, 2012 Qualifier at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, NY.

Our goal for central New York is 48 FLL teams and 12 Jr FLL teams. We anticipate capacity for the two qualifiers to be 24 teams each.

Teams will register for the qualifiers only. Based on overall scoring at qualifiers, 24 teams will be selected to move up to the Championship Tournament.

Championship Date:

Saturday, December 1, 2012 at SUNYIT, Utica, NY.

If you are coaching a Jr. FLL team, please contact us at fll@sunyit.edu for Jr FLL SUPER SENIORS information.

When your team registers with FIRST ( http://firstlegoleague.org ), select New York - Utica  as the primary region of participation.

How do you start a team?

  1. Gather three to ten kids who like Legos, and are between 9 and 14 years old;offer to coach. You're on!
  2. http://www.usfirst.org includes links to learn about FLL
  3. It also includes a Team Registration Page; annual fee is $225.
  4. Paying the registration fee authorizes you to order a field setup kit and mat in order to practice! This material costs $75, and since the theme of FLL changes each year, this is an annual cost.
  5. If you don't own a LEGO Mindstorms kit, you may also purchase one at the site.
CNY FIRST and FLL@SUNYIT may be able to loan your new team a kit to help you get started.
  6. Once the team is registered, FIRST assigns an official number to your team.
  7. Once FIRST receives the registration/materials purchase fees, FIRST sends the coach a copy of the Coach's Handbook, which is FULL of great information on team-building, tournament rules, and sample scoring grids to help guide the kids' efforts.
  8. Once a team number is obtained, the coach will start receiving email communications from FIRST. These email 'blasts' keep coaches up to date, offer coach call-in opportunities and provide links to other useful information.
  9. With a Mindstorms kit, field setup kit/mat, and Coach's Handbook in your pocket, your team is ready to design, build and program. Have Fun!
