[Central New York - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology]

CNY FIRST consists of SUNYIT faculty/staff and area professionals who are committed to supporting robotics and other STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math] programs for area children.

CNY FIRST was established in Summer 2009 to oversee the FLL@SUNYIT program.

In 2007 and 2008, SUNYIT hosted practice FLL tournaments, with guidance from the FIRST Organization in Manchester, New Hampshire. In 2009, SUNYIT hosted its first official tournament, a Qualifier in the Mid-Hudson Valley program.

In 2010, we attained Partner Status with US FIRST, an affiliation that allows us to run a Championship Tournament for FIRST LEGO League, and we look forward to growing other robotics programs with FIRST in the coming years.

In 2011, we hosted the May Robot Riot, facilitated professional development for educators, and assisted at SummerITeens at SUNYIT. CNY FIRST volunteers participated in demonstrations at the Rome Canal Fest and NYS Fair. In December 2011, over 30 FLL teams participated in the FOOD FACTOR Championship Tournament. Six Jr FLL teams joined us for the SNACK ATTACK Expo. FIRST Tech Challenge Team 4082, the New Hartford RoboSpartans hosted a demonstration during the Tournament as well.

2012 has included an expanded Robot Riot, more  SummerITeens robotics camps, and FLL Jr FLL and FTC events.

Upcoming are FLL coaches' training in August, our FLL and FTC kick off events in August and September, a SUMO Smackdown in the Pub in September, October Judge and Ref training, November regional qualifiers, and a regional championship at SUNYIT on December 1, 2012.

CNY FIRST facilitates New Coaches Training, conducts annual Season Kick Off and Follow up events, and supports the December tournament at SUNYIT.

The committee welcomes interested and committed professionals who want to help establish and support robotics programs for kids.
