Yesterday afternoon, May 20, the aging campus fileserver (smbserver/sunyithome) suffered a critical service crash. The server had been online for close to 10 years and was scheduled to be decommissioned this summer. Our support staff were unable to restore the functionality of the server.
Thanks to the long hours put in by our Systems Administration group, we are happy to report that no data was lost with this failure, however they had to accelerate the previously scheduled implementation of the replacement system. There will be a minor impact to some users that were not previously migrated while our team comes around to remap the drives. We appreciate your patience while we work through the remaining open issues.
