New York State has joined New York City in suing FedEx over shipping untaxed cigarettes into New York State

New York State has joined New York City in suing FedEx over shipping untaxed cigarettes into New York State. New York City and New York State are seeking more than $239 million in damages, due to the 400,000 cartons of untaxed cigarettes that were shipped through FedEx. FedEx stated that they had no way of knowing that what was being shipped was cigarettes, as they cannot look inside of the boxes that are being delivered.

It is pretty ridiculous that New York City and New York State is trying to sue FedEx over them shipping cigarettes into New York. It is unethical, and possibly illegal, to open customers packages, so it doesn’t make sense as to why they would be able to sue.
