Ethics and Your Future Self
This article focused on a student having a clear vision of him or herself in the future as a deterrent to committing unethical deeds in the present. The more concrete the student's picture of his or her future and future self, the more responsibility he or she was likely to take for shaping that future in a positive way. Studies found that people who lived "in the now" and were thrill-seekers were more likely to do things that they would come to regret in the future. Taking a moment to write a letter to your future self can actually, according to studies, make someone stop and consider actions taken in the present, and determine whether those actions will be something to regret or be proud of in the future.
