Fall Assistantship Available - Disability Services Office
The Disability Services Office is seeking a graduate assistant to provide support and assistance to students with disabilities. This position will include several different duties. One responsibility will involve providing technical support and training to students with disabilities on the use of adaptive/assistive technologies. Software includes: Reader (Kurzweil, Bookshare), Zoom Text, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Ginger Software (spelling/editing), Live Scribe Smart Pen and the Read and Write Gold program. Occasionally there will be a need to use a program called Omnipage Pro to convert printed material into text based format that students with disabilities can use. The GA will also be responsible for assisting students at the Learning Center by proctoring exams, reading exam questions, and scribing assistance with students as needed.
Applicants for this position must have flexibility and patience in doing a variety of tasks and working with students that have diverse learning styles. Strong computer software skills and the ability to quickly learn software applications is highly desired. Editing skills will be needed when working on the alternate format materials. Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The position requires 12 hours of work per week for the fall '13 semester (August 26 to December 7). Total compensation is $2,000. Applicants must be full-time (9 credits or more), matriculated graduate students in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or higher).
