Day, Scarafile & Read, Inc. establishes scholarship, internship program

Day, Scarafile & Read, Inc. of Utica has established a scholarship fund and an internship program for SUNYIT students pursuing degrees in accounting and management-related fields.

"We are a local employer, with local roots. Being from the area, we want to see SUNYIT and their students succeed and stay in the area," said Bill Read, the firm’s treasurer.

This year’s scholarship recipient is Amy Mlynarczyk of Marcy, a senior completing a bachelor of science in finance. "I am very appreciative of this scholarship from Day, Scarafile and Read," Mlynarczyk said. "I am paying for school myself, and it helps to offset the expenses of books and tuition." She plans to pursue an MBA in technology management at SUNYIT next year.

ScholarshipIn addition to establishing a scholarship, the firm has also instituted a paid internship program for SUNYIT students. Three interns currently training with the company are completing a course that will prepare them for the Federal Registered Tax Return Preparer Competency Test. Once they pass the exam, they will be assigned to prepare taxes in one of Day, Scarafile & Read’s five area H&R Block offices. The firm will donate $20 to the SUNYIT Foundation each time a SUNYIT alumnus has their tax return prepared initially at one of its offices.

"We are thankful to businesses, like Day, Scarafile and Read, for their support," said Peter Perkins, director of development at SUNYIT. "Their financial support and investment in our students allows us to fulfill our mission—to support our students and promote excellence at SUNYIT."
Chartered in 1974, the Institute of Technology Foundation at Utica/Rome, Inc., is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation, organized under New York State law and granted tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. The Foundation promotes, receives, invests and disburses private gifts to SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome. It exists solely to benefit the Institute and its students by providing financial assistance to students and enhancing the learning environment through faculty research stipends and the acquisition of much needed equipment. The Foundation also funds special activities that enhance the academic environment.

Day, Scarafile & Read, Inc. is the premier financial risk management company in Central New York. A locally owned, independent insurance agency with five locations throughout the Mohawk Valley region, Day, Scarafile & Read is also an accounting and tax preparation firm that offers investment services through its affiliation with Advanced Group Financial Services LLC., of Utica, N.Y.
