Dear SUNYIT community,
This month marks the beginning of the recovery for the many Americans who were affected by Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath. Our hearts go out to those who suffered losses, especially the family members and friends of the SUNYIT community.
Congratulations to all involved for a successful open house, just last weekend. The level of interest indicated by the number of prospective students and parents attending is a sign of SUNYIT's growing reputation.
* Thanks to the many faculty, staff and students who helped SUNYIT put its best foot forward at open house. Building on our recently announced improved U.S. News rankings, an event like open house gives SUNYIT a chance to shine—and an opportunity to explain why we're the right choice for those interested in a quality, affordable education.
* Our U.S. News ranking and "military-friendly" college designation, both announced in recent weeks, were followed by national recognition for two of our online graduate programs. SUNYIT’s M.S. in accountancy was ranked third in a comparison of more than 200 accredited programs nationwide by the editorial review team at www.geteducated.com. The same website compared online MBA programs offered by more than 80 business schools and gave high marks to our MBA in technology management.
* Congratulations to V.K. Kool, professor of psychology, who will spend a portion of his 2013 sabbatical as a Fulbright Specialist at Mysore University, India, researching peacemaking behavior among primates, preparing a book and organizing an international symposium.
All these indicators of excellence help us to introduce SUNYIT to those who may be learning about us or visiting us for the first time. For those already familiar with us, this is a busy time of year—visits to the campus by individuals and groups are up. And a great many events of all kinds take place in the fall. Everything from activities like the successful "Making Strides" walk our staff, faculty and students held to support the larger, off-campus community event last month to the upcoming FLL@SUNYIT championship event December 1 in the Wildcat Field house. Events such as these (and many more, all year long) serve to enrich the SUNYIT experience for our entire community.
Finally, please remember to exercise your right to vote on Tuesday, November 6, and—for a unique look at the intersection of technology and politic—plan to attend the next installment in the Provost’s Lecture Services on Friday, November 16, at noon in Donovan G152. Steve Schneider, professor in communication & humanities, will present “Digital Politics, Circa 2012: Explorations in Cyberarcheology.” With election day followed by our annual tribute to veterans and, a few weeks later, Thanksgiving Day, November is sure to be a busy month for all of us!
