Hydraulic Fracturing of the Earth is it ethical?

In upstate NY Hydraulic Fracturing seems to be a potential solution for the economic slump we are currently riding out. With the 17500 jobs per drilling season and 125million dollars in state tax revenue is it worth the risk of damaging the environment? Are the environmental risks greater than the risk of an extremely low unemployment rate? The chemicals used in the process of hydraulic Fracturing are said to be toxic, will the millions of gallons used in the process pollute the potable water in this area?
