John Edwards Trial Opens - globalethics.org
More than four years after his failed presidential campaign ended, North Carolina politician John Edwards is being put on trial for misuse of campaign funds. Allegations state that Edwards used money contributed towards his presidential race to support his image as a "family man" while keeping his affair with a mistress secret. He has since admitted that the mistresse's child is his, and that the affair was ongoing as his wife was dying of cancer. Some find the investigation to be a waste of time and money, however contributers are sure to be angered over misuse of their donations. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 30 years in prison as well as $1.5 million in fines.
