Reaccreditation for engineering technology programs
The Technology Accreditation Commission (TAC) of ABET, Inc., formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, has formally notified SUNYIT that its programs in the engineering technologies have been reaccredited. The reaccreditation is for SUNYIT’s bachelor of science degree programs in civil engineering technology, computer engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, and mechanical engineering technology.
"We are pleased with the outcome of this peer review of our programs in the engineering technologies," said SUNYIT President Wolf Yeigh. "I congratulate our faculty in these disciplines for their continued dedication; our current and future students will benefit from SUNYIT’s commitment to this important part of our academic mission."
ABET, Inc., describes accreditation as "a non-governmental, peer-review process that assures the quality of the postsecondary education students receive. Educational institutions or programs volunteer to undergo this review periodically to determine if certain criteria are being met."
ABET, Inc., is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. Among the most respected accreditation organizations in the U.S., ABET has provided leadership and quality assurance in higher education for over 75 years. ABET accredits over 3,100 programs at more than 600 colleges and universities worldwide.
In addition to its offerings in the engineering technologies, SUNYIT provides a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in technology and professional studies, including recently launched bachelor’s degree programs in biology, network & computer security, and interdisciplinary studies.
