Arguments in Ethics-Law Case Begin Before Supreme Court
A Nevada local official is challenging whether the ethics laws in that state are leagl or if they violate first ammendment rights. The case deals with whether a lawmakers right to vote is violated when they are prohibitted from voting by conflict of interest clauses.
The problem started when a city councilman's former friend wanted to build a casino. The city attorney said he could vote on whether to build the casino, but the state Ethics commission is arguing that he should not have voted.
