$3.5M to upgrade wastewater plant
Berlin, MD is scheduled to receive a $3.5 million US Department of Agriculture grant to upgrade their aging wastewater treatment plant. This part of a nationwide project to improve water service throughout the US. The new system will no longer discharge directlyin to the Hudson Branch, the most polluted stream in Maryland's Coastal Bays watershed.
This a good way to spend federal money. I applaud Sens. Mikulski and Cardin for helping to appropriate funding. It is a win win for everyone involved. Not only is this project good for the environment by cleaning up the water shed, but it is providing safer, cleaner water for local residents. Finally, the US government does something right.
