Blog 5: Sustainability
According to the Evnironmental Protection Agency (EPA), the traditional definition of sustainability calls for policies and strategies that meet society's present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainability reflects the synergy between business and the environment.
The public sees sustainability as meeting economic, social, and security needs now and in the future without depleting natural resources and the environment. Businesses see sustainability as the increase in long-term values whiles decreasing the use of materials and reducing negatie impacts on the environment.
The EPA plays a huge part in the sustainability movement. Today they draw on advances in science and technology, and the application of government regulations and policies to promote "green" business practices.
One of the major issues is the whole oil crisis. Our dependency on foreign oil has led to the research and development of new energy producing processes, most notably: solar energy. Moving towards sustainable energy and business practices we can hopefully soon be able to meet all of our energy needs while reducing costs and environmental impact.
